Furry and feathered rivals swap bodies and see the world through each other's eyes in director Nathan Greno's life-affirming computer-animated caper. Ollie (Michael B Jordan) is an otter-like creature called a pookoo, who lives in a valley filled with friends and foes. He frequently comes under airborne attacks from green birds including Ivy (Juno Temple) and during one skirmish, their pair collide with a glowing purple flower. When they regain consciousness, Ollie and Ivy have swapped bodies and are hopelessly ill-prepared to survive in the wild in their new physical forms. A helpful fish called Boogle (Tracy Morgan) tells the pair that he has seen more purple flowers, which could allow them to revert to their original forms. Ollie and Ivy put their differences aside to travel across perilous terrain in search of the purple blooms but the path ahead is littered with potentially lethal obstacles including a ravenous pack of wolves.
